Tottenham defender Cristian Romero voted Europa League player of the season
Tottenham’s Argentinian central defender Cristian Romero was named Europa League Player of the Season after winning the competition 1-0 with Manchester United on Wednesday.
Voted man of the match in Tottenham’s 1-0 win over Manchester United in the Europa League final, Cristian Romero was also named UEFA’s best player of the competition. The 27-year-old central defender, who was absent for 5 months between November and March due to a hamstring injury, put in an outstanding end to the Europa League campaign, and has now been rewarded.
Although he made just 7 appearances in the competition this season, the quality of the former Atalanta Bergamo man enabled Spurs to lift their first trophy since 2008 (English League Cup).
Romero succeeds Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, voted best player last season with OM, who failed to reach the semi-finals against eventual winners Atalanta Bergamo.
